Current Statistics | Levels | August 2015

Two demographic views down, let's look at level spread.

For our new readers (ha!), "% of total" refers to all characters on this active account. Total Count refers to all characters in the level range indicated.

That I currently have more max level Horde than Alliance was surprising to me. Although that I have more Alliance characters in Draenor than Horde balances that out. It is interesting to me that 75% of my Horde that made it to Draenor are max level. I'm not sure why. Either why that is the case or why I could possibly find it interesting.

Some of these characters are in their level range because my spouse and I haven't had time to move them along. Others are waiting for heirloom pants (still need to get those) or are just biding their time.

Looking at it by expansion:

What this says to me is once they hit Burning Crusade, characters tend to rocket through to the end. Which I think is pretty accurate to how Blizzard sets things up.  I'm not sure I like that but it is what it is.

Next on the list: professions. Those with weak hearts may want to pace themselves.

Comment-Inspired Quick Post: Needlessly Loquacious

So after posting to someone's blog, I sat back and looked at the comment.

I am such a Chatty Cathy at times.

What's that?  You said something?  Well here's my opinion on that!  Aren't you lucky I graced you with my presence and ideas?

Also, I just found that site and I know what I'm going to be distracted with.

Also, also, I think that title would have made a better blog name.

AFK: Missing the announcement

Due to circumstances within my control but with no desire to change them, I'll miss the BIG ANNOUNCEMENT on August 6.

Check the side bar for what is likely to be quite a bit of activity talking about it.

I've heard some of the rumors about what it might be but not too much yet.  I'm in no rush to move to the next expansion and I've mentioned my reservations before.  That's not an endorsement of this expansion, just that I'm not too excited yet about the next one.

But perhaps we'll see.  I'll be back Monday, maybe this weekend at the earliest.

5.6 Million

Just after I hit publish on my last post, it loaded my screen and I saw this:

World of Warcraft down to 5.6 million subscribers

I don't have time to write more this minute, but tell me again flying didn't matter.

Yes, it wasn't the only reason, but come on, it mattered.

Two comments on that page stand out (but I haven't verified)

HeroProc said:

Nov 2014: 10 million subs
Jun 2015: 5.6 million subs

Let that sink in for a minute.

Nocjin replied to someone else:

Slightly fitting they went back to the sub numbers of the pre-flying days.

Quick note, I'm not happy about these numbers but I hope they see a lesson in this.

Pathfinder Achieved

I'm done.

The weight is lifted.

I completed it Sunday night but didn't get around to updating this right away.

Whatever the case, when flying drops, I will rise.

I'm just...

relieved.

That's the best word for this.

To remove that cloud over my head.

To get that bad taste out of my mouth.

I feel free to try to enjoy the game again on my terms.

To play the characters I want

at the pace I want

in the way I want.

It wasn't fun for me.

The questing was fine. I had basically completed it anyways.

The reps felt pointless.

What do they have to do with flying?

I had explored everywhere, just not on any one character enough to get the achievement.

So I had to run around to tick off the box.

Immersive.

Treasures also became a number to fill.

Not a reason to explore.

Not a fun thing to find.

Not something that added to the world.

They could have been those things, but it didn't feel that way to me.

Immersion.

Is that something I inflicted on myself?

Did I exacerbate something that Blizzard had done?

Possibly

Whatever the case, I don't ever have to do it again.

And that my friends, is a sign of good game play.

When a player says: "I'm so happy that is over and I never have to see it again"

Call it a success Blizzard, well done.

Immersed.

I've been reading too much Grumpy Elf Monday Random Thoughts.

Current Statistics | Class & Spec | August 2015

Since we covered race and allegiance in a previous post, I'll cover the class breakout in this one.

As with last time, "% of total" refers to percentage of all characters on this active account. "n/a" can be thought of as not assigned, since it covers those sub-30 characters as well as those that I haven't yet decided on what off-spec to choose.

The class table is broken up with an arbitrary, alphabetical split.

So what do we see?  Well, if you remember from the race post, Druids & Hunters are heavily represented and Night Elves dominate those classes.  Of the 11 Druids or Hunters out there, 7 are Night Elves.

Rogues being tied for most common was a bit surprising however they can be nearly any race and I generally enjoy their playstyle and the idea of a rogue roleplay wise. Even if I am pretty bad at it.

I thought Warlock and Warrior being so high was a surprise too, but real the surprise is that Mage is so low.  I guess when I made the characters they just didn't want to be mages, which is odd because Spellsteal.

Monks suffer from coming in a later expansion.  I'm sure if the had been there from the start, I would have undoubtedly had more.

What of their primary specialization?

Ranged DPS
Healer
Tank
Count

7
5
% of total

Nothing too surprising here. Melee and Ranged are essentially tied and DPS generally leads by a large margin. Healing and tanking are close to even as well, with the slight edge to Heal. Which again, makes sense with what I know of my playstyle.

And what about their secondary specialization?

Off-Spec

Tank

Count

6

% of total

This is a little bit harder to pull anything useful from.  Hunters, Mages, Warlocks and Rogues are basically range and melee DPS with simply different flavors of how they do it. The large presence of tank off-spec seemed odd at first, but looking into it, 4 of those are Death Knights.  Death Knight tank spec is Blood, which when I chose it was a DPS spec. Blood makes sense to me as a DPS spec, Frost makes sense to me as a tank spec. It bugs me that they changed it. It really changed how much I play those characters.  Oh well, I digress.

So that is basically the class and spec layout. Are you not enthused?  Next time, levels!

(Programming note: I lost this post the first time I made it. I feel like I've cross some threshold. I'm now a blogger that can complain about a lost post! Yay?)
